PM Narendra Modi celebrates his birthday on September 17. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, however, said September 21 is his birthday as per the Hindu calendar
Vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the “historic achievement” of the passage of the women’s reservation bill on his birthday. But, as is common knowledge, the prime minister celebrated his birthday on September 17. The Rajya Sabha chairman, however, informed the House that it is “only a coincidence” that the passage of the bill took place on Prime Minister Modi’s birthday “as per Hindu calendar”.
“It is only a coincidence… as per Hindu calendar, today is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday”, Dhankhar said, extending his “heartiest congratulations” to the PM.
The women’s reservation bill was unanimously passed by Rajya Sabha on Thursday, a day after the Lok Sabha cleared it with an overwhelming majority. The Bill will now go to the President of India on its way to becoming an Act.
Modi thanked all members and political parties for playing significant role in empowering women and having a detailed discussion on the Bill, which will provide 33 percent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies but whose implementation may take years.
