Noida/Greater Noida: The recurring disputes over stray dog feeding within housing societies have intensified, with residents demanding designated feeding points to resolve daily conflicts. Many societies, including Palm Olympia, Gaur City and Ajnara, have witnessed heated arguments between residents and dog feeders. While feeders cite compassion, other residents complain about safety, nuisance, and hygiene issues.

Residents’ Concerns

Feeding dogs in basements, staircases or right outside homes has become a flashpoint.

Residents of every sector and society are troubled by this issue. Feeding dogs outside homes or in parking areas is completely wrong. There should be fixed feeding points for the animals.

The problem is serious. Designated feeding points will bring discipline and reduce friction between feeders and residents.

Pramod Mishra, resident of Ajnara Le Garden

Every society should have a common feeding point for stray dogs. Their feeding should not happen near doorsteps, lobbies, or staircases. This will ensure both animal welfare and residents’ comfort.

Legal Standpoint

The Supreme Court has already barred feeding of dogs at public places without designated points, directing civic bodies and RWAs to earmark safe spaces for the purpose.

The Supreme Court has given its verdict. There must be a balance — compassion for animals and respect for residents’ right to live peacefully.

Residents now want authorities, RWAs, and animal welfare groups to jointly identify feeding points inside societies, ensuring that neither animal rights nor residents’ concerns are ignored. Until then, Noida’s societies remain caught between dog lovers and disgruntled residents, with every feeding turning into a matter of dispute.
