The Ministry of Education, through the Department of School Education and Literacy, has initiated online registration for the National Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS). Students in classes 9 and 12 can register for the NMMS scheme on the NSP website at scholarships.gov.in. The registration deadline is November 30, 2023.

Eligibility
As per the information from the competent authority, students with a total annual parental income of Rs. 3,50,000 or less are eligible for the scheme.
To participate in the selection test for the NMMS scholarship, students are required to have achieved a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades in their class 7 exams. Students from SC and ST categories will receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks.
As per the notification, there are two stages of application verification on NSP. The initial level is conducted at the institution or school level by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO), tentatively it is expected to take place on December 15. The second stage is undertaken by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) and will tentatively take place on December 30, 2023.
The ministry has announced the award of one lakh new scholarships each year to students in class 9. This scholarship continues for students in classes 10 to 12, provided they study in state government, government-aided, or local body schools. These students receive an annual scholarship of Rs 12,000, which is directly deposited into their bank accounts through electronic transfer via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method.
