Veteran actor Nana Patekar recently talked about his kid, who suffered from health issues from birth, and his tragic passing. When he considered how other people may view his son’s situation, he shared his thoughts of self-disgust.

Nana said to The Lallantop, “My eldest son was sick since birth,” in reference to the death of his oldest child. He was dealing with some issues. It was invisible that he had problems in one eye. I was so repulsed by him that I wondered what people would think of Nana and what kind of son she had. I didn’t consider his feelings or thoughts about them. All I could think about was what other people would think of my son. Durvasa was his name. He was with us for two and a half years. But what can you do? Life happens and things happen.”

According to Nana, he named his son Durvasa, the enraged sage. He also discussed how he got to know Neelakanti, his wife. They first crossed paths in a play in which she played a bank officer making twenty-five thousand rupees a year. He revealed that Neelakanti had informed him he was free to perform in plays and other events because the money would arrive in any case.

The actor also related how his sister helped him give up smoking. “I stopped smoking because of my sister,” he stated. Her only son passed away. I used to smoke sixty or more cigarettes a day at that time. I even took a smoke in the shower. But it’s a grave mistake. There was an awful smell in my car, so no one would sit in it. I was a heavy smoker but never really drank alcohol. After smoking, my sister noticed that I was coughing. ‘What else do you want to see?’ she asked.

After hearing that, he never smoked again because it profoundly affected Nana. After that, he changed all of his habits.

When Nana thought back on his family, she complimented his mother for shielding him from bad influences like the underworld, which some of his relatives were associated with. He acknowledged that she had influenced his morals and led him down a different route.

“What can I say about my mother? We owe everything to her. All the people from her side were connected to the underworld. Our uncles were also associated with the underworld. I didn’t want to be like that, so my mother took me away to the village. So that I wouldn’t get involved in the underworld,” Nana shared.
