The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is likely to open the Chembur Metro station of Line 2B in April.
The decision has been taken to assess commuter response and improve connectivity at an early stage, according to reports.
About Mumbai Metro 2B
Mumbai Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line) is a 23.64 km elevated corridor connecting D.N. Nagar (Andheri West) to Mandale (Mankhurd East). Once fully operational, it will significantly improve east-west connectivity, linking the western suburbs with the eastern suburbs and major business districts like the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

What was the plan for inauguration?
The Metro line 2B was originally going to open in three stages – phase one (5.39-km stretch between Diamond Garden and Mandalay), phase two (Diamond Garden to Saraswat Nagar), and phase three (Saraswat Nagar to Andheri West) – for integration with Metro Line 2A. There are 20 elevated stations on this line.

Project status
Phase 1 (Mandale to Diamond Garden): It is nearing operation, with final safety certifications being processed. Full completion is expected between 2026 and 2027.

Metro Line 1 at DN Nagar.
Metro Line 2A (Yellow Line extension) at D.N. Nagar.
Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) at BKC.
Suburban Railway at Bandra, Kurla, and Mankhurd.
Mumbai Monorail at Chembur.

The Mandale depot
The Mandale Depot for Mumbai Metro Line 2B is Asia’s largest and first elevated Metro facility.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) state-of-the-art depot, built on 30.45 hectares, features advanced technology, future-ready facilities, and eco-friendly amenities. The car shed can accommodate 72 Metro trains at once. The huge structure is built on two levels, with space for 36 trains on each floor.
