Greater Noida West : Residents of Greater Noida West have once again intensified their demand for metro connectivity. The social organisation NEFOWA held an important online meeting to discuss the latest developments related to the long-pending metro project in the region.
Discussion on the possible metro project foundation in March
During the meeting, members reviewed recent information reportedly shared by the chairman of Noida Metro Rail Corporation. According to the update, the foundation-laying ceremony for several metro projects, including the proposed metro line connecting Noida Extension, is expected to take place in March.
Earlier, NEFOWA had planned a protest at Jantar Mantar on March 15 to push for the metro project. However, during the meeting, most members suggested waiting until the end of March to see whether any concrete progress, such as a foundation ceremony or a clear project timeline, is announced.
Unique symbolic protest planned for April 5
If no progress is made this month, residents will organise a unique symbolic protest in Noida on April 5.
NEFOWA president Abhishek Kumar proposed that residents gather near the last metro pillar at Noida Sector 52 and tie a rope to it, attempting to “pull” the metro line towards Greater Noida West.
The symbolic act is intended to highlight what residents describe as an “invisible force” delaying the metro expansion despite the rapidly growing population in Greater Noida West and worsening traffic congestion in the area.
Peaceful protest planned at Jantar Mantar on April 19
The second phase of the protest will take place on April 19 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Residents plan to hold a peaceful demonstration to draw the attention of the central government and strongly present their demand for metro connectivity in Greater Noida West.
Residents to approach public representatives
Apart from the protests, members of NEFOWA will also meet with local public representatives and request that they raise the issue with the central government.
Residents believe that metro connectivity will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the region and fulfil a long-standing demand of thousands of families living in Greater Noida West.
