NOIDA : Frustration over metro connectivity in Greater Noida West is continuously increasing. As the 2027 assembly elections approach, the metro issue has once again become the center of political discussion. About 5-6 lakh people live in the area, and thousands commute daily to Delhi-Noida for work. Despite this, a strong and reliable public transport system has not yet been established. High-rise societies have rapidly developed in Greater Noida West, but in the meantime, people are forced to commute daily using private vehicles, tempos, and e-rickshaws.
The impact is being seen in traffic congestion, pollution, and wasted time. Hundreds of people waste 2 to 3 hours daily just commuting. Local residents say that the metro issue becomes a major agenda in every election, but no progress or work has been seen on the ground so far.
Nobody knows where the file is stuck.
Manish Srivastava, a resident of Gaur City Avenue-1, says that the promise of metro connectivity has been made since the city was being developed. According to him, during every election, someone or the other Whenever a political leader or an authority official makes a statement, the prices of flats increase by 10 to 20 percent, but the metro work does not progress. They also say that today the general public doesn’t even know at what stage the metro file is pending and whose approval is still awaited. Sunil Sachdeva, a resident of Cherry County, says that he bought his flat in 2014 relying on the metro. The main reason for buying the flat was that the builder had mentioned on large hoardings and vouchers that the metro would be coming soon. He says that years have passed, but the metro still remains a dream. During elections, the metro issue suddenly surfaces, but no clear timeline is provided. According to him, the residents of the area are forced to live with the dream of the metro.
Many times memos were given, letters were written but no solution
Amit Kumar Soni, a resident of VVIP Homes in Greater Noida West, said that this time there is a lot of anger among people regarding the metro. He mentioned that residents of the area have written letters to the MP, MLA, and even the Prime Minister.
A memo was also given to the CEO of Noida Authority to start regular city bus services. But so far, no permanent solution has emerged. He said that the metro always appears in election promises, but no work is visible on the ground.
Not just announcements, a timeline is needed
Vikas Katiyar, a resident of Spring Meadow Society in Greater Noida West, said that now people do not want just speeches or empty promises. According to him, millions of people reside in the area, and the public transport issue has become an everyday challenge. He said that this time a clear deadline for the metro project should be announced.
If the government is serious, the construction start date and phased plan should be made public. He believes that until the metro comes, a strong and regular city bus service is necessary. The service should be started so that people can get relief.
What are the main demands?
The residents of Greater Noida West demand that a clear timeline for the metro project be made public and that it be revealed at what level the file is pending. As a final solution, better and regular city bus services should be introduced. Additionally, traffic management and alternative public transportation should be strengthened.
There is talk in the area that this time the metro should not just remain an election issue. Many even say that the metro issue has resurfaced this time, but the residents of Greater Noida West have already started preparing for a protest at Jantar Mantar. Their clear message is that they want concrete action visible on the ground, not just assurances.
