Mangalore University to reduce tatkal fee from Rs 2,800 to Rs 700

MANGALURU: In a student-centric move, Mangalore University, which is introducing tatkal revaluation facilities, but with a four-fold fee surge, is considering reducing it. With the fee reduction, many students can benefit from the fast-track system, introduced for the first time. This will be helpful for the sixth-semester students, who received their results, this Monday and who wish to go for higher education or take up jobs.
Raju Chalannavar, registrar (evaluation), MU confirmed to STOI that the regular fee for revaluation, re-totalling, and personal seeing is Rs 700. Initially, we planned to increase it fourfold (Rs 2,800) as there is a lot of work to be done by staff, starting with searching and sorting each answer paper. “However, now considering the response and realizing that, many would not be able to afford the four-fold surge, we have decided to stick to the normal fee,” said Chalannavar.
Earlier, the process (revaluation, re-totalling and personal seeing), which otherwise took three months, will now be completed in 15–20 days, as per the new tatkal facilities. “The notification on tatkal revaluation will be out on Monday,” said Chalannavar.
The student and teaching fraternity hailed the MU’s decision to reduce the fee for tatkal. “It will be convenient for many. The pandemic has delayed the semesters, and some colleges have already started PG courses. The tatkal system will help those wishing to continue their studies,” said a senior commerce professor.
