Durga Puja 2023: Gear up to experience Kolkata vibes in Greater Noida West

Greater Noida West: Navratri is starting from 15th October 2023 and the necessary preparations to celebrate it are going on in full swing. Various communities in Greater Noida West are organising Durga Pooja, one among them is Matri Peeth, which is authentic Kali Bari, a Bengali association which celebrates Hindu festivals in pure Bengali traditions.

‘A cultural extravaganza to celebrate life’

The countdown for Durga Pooja starts with Khunti Poojan

Khunti Puja marks the beginning of Durga Puja preparations by starting work on the pandal. It’s a key annual fixture of puja organisers, who usually choose an auspicious day to hold it. Matri Peeth celebrated Khunti poojan on September 30, 2023, which marked the beginning of the Durgotsav, a vibrant Hindu festival honouring Goddess Durga.

‘A Bengali tradition which unities India and worldwide’

Shruti Dasgupta, General Secretary says, “This is the third time we are celebrating Durga Pooja with all the communities of Greater Noida West. Matri Peeth celebrates it with grandeur and pure devotion. It is originally a Bengali tradition which also unities across India and worldwide.”

Amit Sengupta, Chairman of Matri-Peeth Greater Noida West Kali Bari says, ” This time Durgotsav will be a grand celebration with lots of exuberant festivities honouring Durga Ma and Kali Ma. Mithun Chaterjee, Treasurer, Matri Peeth gave us the most important details about the event. He says, ” There will be a diverse range of 40 kinds of food stalls where the people will enjoy the delectable dishes and wide range of sweets and deserts to satisfy the cravings.
He continues, “As Bengal is rich in traditions unlike other states, we have asked the team from West Bengal to add the spark to our event. Skilled Dhakees will be there to add the traditional fervour. The cultural programs featuring talented artists will be worth watching. “

Dhunuchi Dance performances are a sight to behold

Dhunuchi dance is dedicated to Goddess Durga. According to mythology, Goddess Durga herself danced with Dhunuchi to channel energy within herself. It means to surrender oneself completely to the Goddess and it is organised on the evening of Maha Navmi. But Maatri Peeth will give you chance to witness this epic dance every evening.

There will be a live Chhau Dance performance by the internationally acclaimed Puluria Dance Academy. Shruti Dasgupta says, ” Chhau dance is a semi-classical Indian dance with martial and folk traditions. The dance ranges from celebrating martial arts, acrobatics and athletics performed in festive themes of a folk dance, to a structured dance with religious themes found in Shaivism, Shaktism and Vaishnavism. The costumes vary between the styles, with Purulia and Serakeilla using masks to identify the characters. The stories enacted by Chhau dancers include those from the Hindu epics the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the Puranas and other Indian literature.”

Maha Navami will also witness an enchanting live singing performance by Argha Dutta of Amul Star Voice of India who is a vocal artist and performed in Zee Bangla Saregamapa Plus Voice of India.

October 24th

Vijya Dashmi will be a musical night again. This night will witness lots of dance performances with live singing from various bands.
