Jamia Hamdard Holds 14th Convocation Ceremony

NEW DELHI: Jamia Hamdard successfully organized its 14th Convocation on September 21, 2023, at its Hamdard Nagar campus in South Delhi.
The Convocation featured Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, as the Chief Guest, who emphasized the significance of Hindi and Urdu languages and encouraged students to shape a brighter future. He urged graduates to value their time and contribute to nation-building.
Janab Hammad Ahmed, Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, presided over the event, and Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, set a tone of inspiration and impact.
The Convocation celebrated over 7,900 students from academic years 2019 to 2022, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and Ph.D. recipients. Notably, girls outnumbered boys among the gold medal winners, showcasing the institution’s focus on women’s education.
Three distinguished individuals—Mr. Mohammad Azharuddin, Dr. Raman Kant Garg, and Dr. Abdul Kadir Fazlani—received Honorary Degrees for their contributions to sports, public finance, and philanthropy, respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mohammad Azharuddin expressed his deep honour and highlighted the institution’s commitment to excellence, paralleling his experiences in cricket. He said, “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from Jamia Hamdard. This institution’s commitment to excellence resonates with my experiences in cricket, and I am humbled by this gesture.”
Dr. Raman Kant Garg stressed the role of equitable tax systems in addressing societal inequalities, appreciating the university’s recognition of this aspect.
Dr. Abdul Kader Fazlani, known for his philanthropic work, pledged to continue serving society through his foundations.
The Convocation concluded with the National Anthem, capping off a remarkable event that celebrated academic excellence and recognized outstanding contributions.
Dr. M.A. Sikandar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard, commended the challenging task of awarding degrees to 7,911 students for the years 2019 to 2022. In total, 243 Ph.D. Degrees and 70 Gold Medals were awarded to meritorious students. A total of 4,954 undergraduates and 2,714 postgraduates received degrees, with over 2,000 students and 500 guests in attendance.
The convocation was a jubilant occasion, with students interacting nostalgically with their teachers after receiving their degrees and medals.
