Greater Noida – There is an acute water shortage in Greater Noida. Residents living in Greater Noida West are not even getting adequate drinking water, while the pipes of the Gangajal project of Greater Noida are bursting at many places and lakhs of litres of water is being wasted. The Authority had promised to provide pure drinking water to the residents of Greater Noida through the Gangajal project, but even after so many years, the Gangajal project has not reached dozens of sectors.
The Gangajal project of Greater Noida Authority was launched a long time ago by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Along with this, this dream project was promised to reach every house and claiming it beneficial for Greater Noida. But even after years, the people of Greater Noida have not yet got the benefit of the Gangajal project. While people are struggling with the shortage of drinking water in many societies of Greater Noida West in this scorching heat, lakhs of litres of water are being wasted on the roads.
Harendra Bhati, a Social worker says, “The Greater Noida Authority had claimed to provide Gangajal project in all the sectors, but the reality is quite opposite. Years ago, the target was set to provide the Gangajal project to all the sectors of Greater Noida, but Gangajal water has not yet reached the sectors and societies. Along the service road of Sector 37, lakhs of litres of water are being wasted by leaking from pipelines at various places and the officials of Greater Noida Authority are not paying any attention to this.“
He continues, “This dream project was dedicated to the residents of Greater Noida by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 1.5 to 2 years ago. Even today, the target of providing water through the Gangajal project in dozens of sectors is incomplete. The 10 to 15-year-old pipelines laid at the beginning of this project have become dilapidated. Due to this precious water like Gangajal is being wasted due to the bursting of pipelines and water is flowing on the drains and roads. At the same time, people living in the societies of Greater Noida are yearning for every drop of water. The work of fetching pure drinking water to lakhs of citizens is still incomplete. Complaints have been made to the officials of Greater Noida Authority many times but despite that no action is being taken. Due to this Gangajal is getting wasted by leaking into drains and roads and no solution is yet being found to deliver it to homes.“
