Noida: What seemed like a peaceful day in Sector-51 was shattered when the doorbell rang at D-27. Standing outside was a policeman holding an umbrella.
I was chasing a burglar from the D-Block park. He just jumped over the wall of D-28 and into your property.
Policemen, informs the house owner in Sector 51
House owner immediately let him in and together they began searching every part of the house, the garage, the backyard and the upper balconies. But the suspect had vanished.
The policeman suspected the burglar might be hiding in the basement through the AC ducts, but the search there was also unsuccessful. While inspecting the backyard, he noticed an escape route leading to the vacant plots behind our house, which the suspect may have used to flee.
Just as the officer was about to leave, my father made a critical suggestion: check D-28, a long-abandoned, doorless house right next door.
A Hidden Gang Found
Entering the deserted structure revealed a startling scene: four burglars hiding inside. With help from another policeman, all four were arrested and escorted into a police van. Before leaving, officers cautioned residents that the fifth suspect was still at large.
CCTV Footage: CCTV clips from our property will be shared soon to help trace the remaining suspect.
Vacant properties — A neighbourhood risk
This incident is a wake-up call. Vacant homes and overgrown plots are turning into safe havens for criminals. Unless addressed immediately, they will continue to put residents at risk.
Our call to action
We urge RWA and local police to:
Secure all vacant homes and plots with locks, grills, and regular inspections to prevent unauthorised access.
Clear overgrown bushes and add streetlights to reduce hiding spots.
Increase patrol frequency, especially during the day when residents are at work.
Ignoring this issue could cost lives. We must act together — now.
