New Delhi NCR : As monsoon rains ease and Yamuna water levels recede, the Union Health Ministry has issued an alert for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to remain vigilant against mosquito-borne diseases. On Monday, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting with officials from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and municipal corporations of NCR cities including Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida. Senior health administrators, mayors, and medical superintendents of central hospitals in Delhi were also present.
Key highlights from the meeting
Hospitals on alert: All hospitals in Delhi-NCR have been directed to ramp up preparedness for potential dengue cases.
Fewer cases this year: Officials reported that dengue cases this year are 47% lower compared to 2024, but preventive measures remain crucial.
Action plan: Authorities were instructed to intensify mosquito control drives, strengthen disease surveillance, and ensure rapid response teams remain active.
Municipal duties: Civic bodies have been asked to conduct regular fogging, door-to-door larva surveys, and immediate case reporting.
Why the Alert Now?
Health officials stressed that while the trend of dengue cases appears under control, the post-monsoon period poses the highest risk for mosquito breeding. Early action could prevent a sudden spike in infections.
The Union Health Minister emphasized coordination among Delhi, UP, and Haryana to prevent cross-border spread of dengue and related vector-borne diseases. Public awareness campaigns and strict monitoring will continue in the coming weeks.
