Noida: The District Development Residents Welfare Association (DDRWA) Federation of Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, has submitted a formal request to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, urging the appointment of a dedicated agency for voter card verification, census-related surveys and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme.
In its representation, the federation has expressed serious concern over the continued involvement of school teachers, government officials and authority employees in voter verification and SIR survey work. According to DDRWA, this practice is adversely affecting the education system and disrupting essential public services.
The federation stated that school teachers are currently burdened with extensive survey duties, forcing them to go door-to-door for voter card verification, census work and related exercises. As a result, classroom teaching has suffered significantly, with teachers unable to devote adequate time and attention to students. DDRWA warned that the academic future of school children is being compromised due to frequent disruptions in regular teaching.
The letter further highlights the mental stress faced by teachers due to excessive workload and administrative pressure. DDRWA claimed that in some extreme cases, this pressure has reportedly led to tragic consequences, underscoring the urgency of the issue.
Special concern has also been raised regarding the safety of women teachers. The federation noted that female teachers are often required to conduct surveys in villages, slums and densely populated or uneducated areas, where they allegedly face harassment, misbehavior and unsafe conditions. DDRWA emphasized that teachers should not be exposed to such risks and that their primary responsibility must remain education, not field surveys.
Beyond the education sector, the federation pointed out that government and authority employees deputed for survey work are unable to perform their regular duties. As a result, public grievances remain unresolved, office files are piling up, and basic civic infrastructure such as drains, sewers, and roads is deteriorating. Residents, the federation said, are increasingly frustrated as officials often cite survey duties as the reason for delays.
To address these issues, DDRWA has appealed to the Election Commission to appoint a separate professional agency exclusively for voter card verification, SIR, census surveys and preparation of electoral documents. The federation suggested that such an agency would ensure accuracy, efficiency and accountability, with payments linked to verified work output.
DDRWA believes that appointing a dedicated agency will protect the interests of school children, ensure the safety and dignity of teachers, and allow government officials to focus on governance and public service delivery. The appeal has been signed by N. P. Singh, President and Sanjeev Kumar, Senior Vice President, DDRWA Federation, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
