Cauvery Water Dispute: School holiday declared in Bengaluru on Sept 26



Several organizations, comprising farmers and pro-Kannada groups, are planning a Bengaluru city shutdown from 6 am to 6 pm on September 26 to voice their opposition to the Karnataka government’s decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. This protest is aimed at conveying their demand for the government to reconsider its stance on the water-sharing issue.
On September 25, 2023, Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister, BC Nagesh, made an announcement regarding the Bengaluru city shutdown scheduled for September 26. Minister Nagesh stated that the decision to call for the shutdown was made with the safety of students and teachers in mind.
Parents are encouraged to ensure their children stay home on September 26, 2023, and to minimize non-essential travel.
