Mumbai Metro-3 or the Aqua Line, which will open fully from September 30, is being hailed as a key connector between south Mumbai and suburbs.

While it will cover the distance between Aarey Colony and Colaba in 60 minutes, it will also pave the way for an easier commute between far-off suburbs of Borivali or Dahisar and Cuffe Parade or Colaba.

Here’s how.

Mumbai Metro-3: The stations and route

The fully underground Mumbai Metro-3 has following stations — Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate (Hutatma Chowk), Kalbadevi, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli), Siddhivinayak, Dadar, Shitladevi, Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari, Santacruz, CSIA Domestic Airport, Sahar Road, CSIA International Airport (T2), Marol Naka, MIDC, SEEPZ, Aarey.

PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the stretch between Cuffe Parade and Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli) on September 30. The Worli to Aarey stretch is already functional.

How Mumbaiites currently travel between Borivali or Dahisar and Cuffe Parade?

From Borivali to Cuffe Parade

Officegoers take a local train on the Western Railway line from Borivali station to Churchgate. The journey typically takes around 45 to 50 minutes if you catch a fast or semi-fast local train. Ticket fares for second class non-AC are around Rs 15-20, while air-conditioned locals may cost between Rs 75 and Rs 110. Once you arrive at Churchgate, you can take a taxi to Cuffe Parade, which is about 4-5 km away and takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic. This ride usually costs around Rs 45-100, depending on the type of taxi. Overall, the total travel time from Borivali to Cuffe Parade is around 60 to 75 minutes, with a total cost ranging between Rs 60-150.

From Dahisar to Cuffe Parade

From Dahisar, you can take the Western line local train directly to Churchgate. It takes around 60 to 65 minutes . The ticket cost is similar to that from Borivali, with non-AC fares around Rs 15. From Churchgate, you can take a taxi, which will take another 10 to 15 minutes and cost Rs 45-100. The total journey time from Dahisar to Cuffe Parade is typically 75 to 90 minutes, with costs ranging between Rs 60 and Rs 200.

How will Mumbai Metro-3 connect Borivali, Dahisar to Colaba via BKC?

From Borivali West

Those coming from Borivali West, can take Metro-2A (detailed route is here) from Borivali West and get off at Andheri West.

Change over to Metro-1’s DN Nagar station. Using Metro-1 (detailed route is here), travel towards Ghatkopar and get off at Marol Naka.

Change over to the underground Metro-3 and head to BKC, Worli or Colaba.

From Dahisar East

Those coming from Dahisar East can take Metro-7 (detailed route is here) and get off at Gundavli.

Change over to Metro-1’s (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) Western Express Highway station. It is a five-minute walk between Metro 7 and Metro-1 through a 58-metre foot overbridge.

Using Metro-1, travel towards Ghatkopar and get off at Marol Naka. Change over to the underground Metro-3 which will take you to BKC or further to Worli and Colaba.

What are Mumbai Metro-3 timings?

First train: 05.55 hrs from Terminal Stations i.e., Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk

Last train: At 22:30 hrs.

Peak hours: Every 6-6.5 minutes

Non-peak hours: Trains every 15-20 minutes

Andheri to Cuffe Parade will be covered in 45-50 minutes, while CSMIA T2 to BKC in 10-12 minutes.
