Noida, Sector-71: A shocking case of theft has emerged from Noida’s Sector-71, where a domestic help working in a bungalow allegedly fled with gold jewellery worth several lakhs. The accused, identified as Julie from Madhubani district in Bihar, is a BA graduate. She was arrested before she could escape the city.

Worked for Days, Then Vanished with Valuables

According to the FIR filed by homeowner Sunita, Julie was hired as a housemaid for her Sector-71 bungalow just a few weeks ago. Initially, she worked diligently, building trust with the family. However, on July 6, she absconded with gold chains, earrings, and other valuable ornaments.

A Pattern of Planned Thefts

Police investigation revealed that Julie holds a bachelor’s degree and had carefully planned the crime. She deliberately sought employment in upscale homes, worked there briefly to gain access to household routines, and then executed thefts. During interrogation, she admitted that she preferred stealing over working a regular job, claiming it earned her “more money in less time.”

Swift Police Action Prevents Escape

As soon as the complaint was received, Noida Police launched a swift operation and tracked Julie down within the city. Had there been any delay, she could have fled to her hometown in Bihar, making the arrest significantly more difficult. Most of the stolen jewellery has been recovered, and a chargesheet is being prepared against her.

🛡️ Tips to Stay Safe and Alert When Hiring Housemaids:

  1. Verify Identity Thoroughly:
    • Always ask for government-issued ID proof (like Aadhaar, Voter ID) and verify it.
    • Get the maid’s permanent address and emergency contact numbers.
  2. Police Verification is a Must:
    • Submit the maid’s details at your local police station for formal verification.
    • Many RWAs (Resident Welfare Associations) assist with this process.
  3. Keep Limited Access:
    • Avoid giving access to bedrooms, locker rooms, or areas where valuables are kept.
    • Use safes or lock valuables even inside cupboards.
  4. Install CCTV Cameras:
    • Surveillance cameras at key locations like entrances, drawing rooms, and passageways act as a deterrent.
  5. Avoid Oversharing Personal Information:
    • Don’t discuss financial details or travel plans in front of the help.
  6. Maintain a Register/Logbook:
    • Keep a log of entry/exit times and days worked, especially if you’re often away.
  7. Use Technology:
    • Consider using app-based services where maids are background-verified.
  8. Watch for Sudden Changes:
    • Be alert if the maid suddenly starts taking too many leaves, behaves secretively, or avoids eye contact.
