Greater Noida West: High-rise societies in Greater Noida West continue to witness troubling lift-related incidents, raising questions over maintenance standards and resident safety. The latest case has emerged from Amrapali Golf Homes, where a 10-year-old boy remained trapped inside a malfunctioning lift for nearly an hour.
Alarm pressed, but no response
According to the child’s family, the boy pressed the emergency alarm button multiple times, yet no security or maintenance staff arrived for help. Shockingly, even residents nearby could not hear the alarm sound. The ordeal only came to light when a neighbour heard the child’s faint screams and immediately alerted his family. Panic-stricken, the family rushed to the spot along with other residents. After intense effort and manual intervention, the group managed to pry open the lift door and rescue the child.
Following the incident, the family lodged a formal complaint with the society’s maintenance team. They alleged that no lift operator or trained technician was present on duty at the time, leading to a dangerous delay that could have turned disastrous.
Recurring lift failures across GNW
This is far from an isolated case. Lift malfunctions have become worryingly frequent across high-rise clusters in the region.
Just last Friday, a major scare unfolded at NRI Society, F Tower, when a lift reportedly plummeted to the ground. A woman resident captured the aftermath in a video that has since gone viral. In an emotional voice, shaken by the experience, she repeatedly said, “Aaj koi badi ghatna ho sakti thi” — stressing how close the society came to a major tragedy.
Residents of NRI Society claimed that:
- Lift maintenance was irregular.
- Complaints were routinely ignored.
- Serious mechanical issues persisted for weeks.
- Management avoided accountability
While no one was injured in the Friday incident, it has intensified anger and fear among residents who say they feel unsafe even using basic amenities.
Residents demand accountability
The repeated failures raise serious questions about:
- The quality of lift installation in high-rise developments
- The frequency and thoroughness of servicing
- The readiness of emergency response systems
- The presence of trained operators and technicians
Residents from both societies are urging the Greater Noida Authority to conduct strict safety audits and penalise management teams that fail to meet mandatory maintenance standards.
A wake-up call for all high-rise societies
The frightening episode at Amrapali Golf Homes — where a young child remained trapped for an hour — and the recent incident at NRI Society underline a harsh reality:
Lift safety remains a major unresolved crisis in Greater Noida West.
Until improved oversight, regular inspections, and accountability mechanisms are enforced, such incidents may continue to put thousands of residents at risk.
