Greater Noida West : Faith, service, and the radiance of divinity on October 20, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Gaur City/Crossing Republic in Greater Noida West, witnessed a grand and devotional celebration of Bandi Chhor Divas along with the festival of Diwali. The sangat (devotees) collectively remembered the historic event when, around the year 1600, the Sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, was unjustly imprisoned at the Gwalior Fort by Mughal ruler Jahangir, who feared the Guru’s growing influence and strength.

When the order for Guru Sahib’s release was finally issued, Guru Sahib laid a divine and noble condition, that every one of the 52 Hindu kings imprisoned alongside Him must also be set free. Jahangir tried to restrict this mercy by stating that only those who held onto the Guru’s cloak would be allowed to leave.

In His grace and compassion, Guru Sahib had a special robe prepared with 52 tassels attached to it. Each Raja held onto one of those tassels, and together they walked out to freedom. This remarkable moment became a shining symbol of liberation the triumph of justice over tyranny. When Guru Sahib returned to Amritsar, it was the day of Diwali. The entire city illuminated itself in joy and gratitude. Since then, Sikhs celebrate this day as Bandi Chhor Divas the Day of Liberation.

Spiritual evening at Gurdwara Sahib

The Gurdwara was beautifully decorated with lights. A special Kirtan Darbar was held from 7 PM to 10 PM, filling the environment with the divine resonance of Gurbani. Devotees lit lamps and remembered the Guru’s sacrifice and humanitarian spirit.

Langar seva
An ‘Atut Langar’ of Rajma-Chawal and Kheer was served to the entire sangat, symbolizing equality, sharing, and selfless service. This graceful celebration was made successful with the dedicated support of Gurdwara Management Committee President S. Surinder Singh, Vice President Jaspal Singh, and executive members R.S. Uppal, Narendra Singh Babar, and Narendra Grover, along with the entire sangat.

A glorious evening that rekindled the everlasting message—
Where there is Guru’s light, no darkness can survive.
