Noida: A major tragedy was narrowly avoided when an old tree suddenly collapsed inside the Udyog Vihar LIG Flats society. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the tree falling right where small children were playing. Fortunately, no one was hurt, though two parked scooters were badly damaged.
A narrow escape for Children
Residents pointed out that at the time of the incident, small children were on their way back from tuition classes. Just a few steps ahead, and the tree could have directly fallen on them. The incident has left parents shaken, highlighting the urgent need for preventive action.
It was a matter of seconds. If the kids had been a little further ahead, the tree would have landed on them.
Resident
Neglected trees are turning hazardous
Residents also complained that tree trimming and maintenance have not been carried out in the society for a long time. Many trees have grown old and weak, posing a constant risk of collapse, especially during the monsoon season. According to the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), nearly 10 to 12 such trees need to be urgently cut or pruned to prevent accidents.
Horticulture Department notified
The incident was immediately reported to the Horticulture Department, which has assured prompt action.
RWA President Mayank Chauhan stated that today’s accident could have turned into a major disaster, but fortunately, it was avoided in time.
RWA’s Demand
The RWA has been consistently urging the Noida Authority to ensure the timely pruning and removal of unsafe trees. Residents fear that without urgent intervention, such incidents could soon lead to loss of life and property.
Alarming call
The Sector-82 Udyog Vihar case serves as a wake-up call for all housing societies in Noida. Regular maintenance and trimming of trees are not only important for the aesthetics of the society but also crucial for the safety of its residents, especially children, who are the most vulnerable.
