Mumbai Metro News: Thane’s long-awaited Metro dream has moved closer to reality with the successful completion of a trial run on the Gaimukh-Kapurbawdi route. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said Metro services on the stretch are expected to begin by December 2026, bringing relief to commuters across several parts of the city.
Sarnaik shared the update on social media, describing the successful trial as an important step towards starting Metro services on the route.
Metro To Benefit Key Thane Areas
According to Sarnaik, the new Metro service will benefit commuters in and around Gaimukh, Kasarvadavali, Waghbil, Manpada, Tikujiniwadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden and Kapurbawdi.
The route is expected to provide commuters with a faster and more convenient public transport option, particularly for those travelling between residential areas and major parts of Thane.
The minister said the Metro would also help address the city’s growing traffic congestion and make daily travel more convenient for residents.
Pratap Sarnaik Calls Trial A Major Step
In his social media post, Pratap Sarnaik said the successful trial of the Gaimukh to Kapurbawdi Metro line marked a concrete step towards starting passenger services by December. He said the project would provide significant relief to citizens in the areas connected by the route and contribute to the overall development of Thane.
Sarnaik also stressed the need to speed up important infrastructure projects such as the Metro to improve public transport and make commuting easier for citizens.
Thane Metro Expected To Ease Traffic
Thane has been facing increasing traffic congestion, making reliable public transport an important part of the city’s infrastructure plans. The Metro is expected to offer commuters an alternative to road travel while providing a faster, safer and more environmentally friendly mode of transport.
With the trial run now completed, attention will shift towards the remaining steps required before passenger services can begin.
What Is Metro Route 4?
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Metro Route 4 is a 32.32-km elevated corridor connecting Wadala and Kasarvadavali.
The corridor is planned to strengthen connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and improve public transport access for commuters travelling through Thane and adjoining areas.
