Noida : A disturbing series of attacks on women in Noida has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old accountant who allegedly stabbed six women at random over three days. Police said the accused, identified as Ankit Verma, targeted women while riding a blue scooter and attacked them from behind using scissors. According to police officials, the accused did not know any of the victims personally and selected them randomly while they were returning home from work during evening hours.

Police traced the accused through CCTV footage

The accused, a resident of Khoda and a BCom graduate from Delhi University, was working with a private company in Sector 62 since 2022. Investigators said the attacks followed a similar pattern.

He used to approach women from behind on a scooter, attack them below the waist with a sharp object and flee immediately.

After multiple incidents were reported in Sector 55, Sector 56 and nearby areas, police teams scanned more than 100 CCTV clips to identify the scooter used in the attacks. The accused was eventually arrested in Sector 55 on Saturday, May 24, 2026. A pair of scissors allegedly used in the attacks was recovered from him.

Women attacked while returning home from work

Police said the first incident took place near Thapar Gate on May 19 when a private company employee was attacked while walking home at night. Initially, the matter was not formally reported. The next day, another woman informed police that a scooter rider attacked her from behind near the Sector 55-56 road. As similar incidents continued, police suspected that a serial offender was active in the area. On May 20 and 21, several more women were attacked near Vanasthali Public School, DAV School and other locations in Noida. Two women later lodged formal FIRs under relevant sections related to voluntarily causing hurt.

The accused allegedly confessed to hatred towards women

During questioning, the accused reportedly told police that he was dealing with deep personal insecurities and anger linked to his married life and body image issues. Police said Verma allegedly claimed he had developed resentment towards women after facing repeated taunts about his physical appearance and ongoing domestic disputes. Investigators also found that the accused wore multiple layers of clothing under his jeans because he was conscious about his thin legs. Family members reportedly described him as quiet and withdrawn, though arguments at home were frequent.

More victims come forward after arrest

After news of the arrest became public, four more women approached police and recorded their statements. Officials are now checking whether the accused may have carried out similar attacks in Delhi as well.

The accused has been sent to judicial custody and further investigation is underway.
