Greater Noida continues to witness a growing safety concern as several open drains running along roads in Greater Noida city and Greater Noida West are posing a grave risk to human lives and animals. Despite rapid urban development, the absence of proper covering or barricading of roadside drains has led to repeated accidents, triggering public outrage and concern.
Just two days ago, a tragic incident occurred in Greater Noida where a young man lost his life after his car fell into an open drain. Such incidents are no longer isolated. Locals report that cattle, including cows, bulls and other animals, frequently fall into these uncovered drains, resulting in injuries and fatalities. These accidents not only highlight infrastructural negligence but also raise serious questions about public safety and civic accountability.
Raising the issue formally, Harendra Bhati from the Active Citizen Team, Gautam Budh Nagar, has written to the Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Noida Authority, urging immediate intervention. In his appeal, Bhati emphasized that multiple open drains exist dangerously close to main roads, creating hazardous conditions, especially at night and during the monsoon season.
The letter requests the Authority to direct all work circles to identify such open drains, prepare a comprehensive list, and take corrective measures at the earliest. Suggested actions include covering the drains and installing proper barricades to prevent future mishaps.
Residents and civic groups are now demanding time-bound action from the Greater Noida Authority, stressing that preventable accidents should not continue due to administrative delays. With lives at stake, citizens hope the Authority will prioritise this issue and implement concrete safety measures to avert further loss of life and property.
