Greater Noida: Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh’s hi-tech city, Greater Noida, has once again exposed the poor drainage system in several high-rise societies. The Ajnara Homes Society in Greater Noida West is the latest to face severe waterlogging, with its basement submerged since Tuesday’s downpour.
Residents fear structural risk
Residents expressed anger, saying stagnant water could weaken the building’s foundation, posing a safety risk. Flats adjacent to the basement are also affected by the foul smell of dirty water, making day-to-day life unbearable. Vehicles parked in the basement remain vulnerable to damage.
Vehicles stranded, Lift services hit
The waterlogging has left several vehicles stranded, with residents unable to access them. The basement lifts have also stopped functioning, creating serious inconvenience, especially for children and the elderly.
Health concerns loom large
Residents fear that if the water is not drained immediately, it could trigger mosquito breeding and spread diseases such as dengue and malaria. Despite repeated complaints, residents allege that the builder and management have failed to take concrete action.
Demand for a permanent solution
The residents have urged the builder and authorities to ensure immediate water drainage and put in place a permanent solution to prevent recurrence during the monsoon.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall in the coming days. In view of the heavy rain alert, schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar have been closed as a precautionary measure.
