Noida: A recent viral video circulating on WhatsApp and Twitter has stirred controversy, alleging that the daughter of Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar was involved in a physical assault on a woman at Purvanchal Heights society in Greater Noida. The clip, shared widely on social media platforms, has raised serious concerns and cast aspersions on the public image of the MLA, who is known as a strong advocate of women’s empowerment.

The Incident

According to media reports, a woman residing in the Purvanchal Heights society has filed a complaint at Surajpur Police Station, claiming that a group of women forcibly entered her flat and assaulted her and her daughter. The victim’s husband stated that his daughter managed to record a short video of the incident, which led to further aggression from the assailants.

As the video gained traction online, several messages and inquiries reached the news portal Apartment Times, claiming that the attackers included the daughter of MLA Tejpal Nagar. The portal, citing public concern and social media buzz, approached the MLA for his response.

MLA Responds: ‘Baseless Allegations’

Speaking exclusively to Apartment Times, Tejpal Nagar expressed shock and disbelief over the allegations.

If my daughter resides in that society, does that justify dragging her name into a matter where she has no involvement? There was a minor car incident which led to a dispute among women residents. My daughter merely went there as a responsible citizen to understand the situation and offer help. She neither assaulted anyone nor was she involved in the clash. I am surprised and disappointed to see her name being wrongly associated with this incident

Irresponsible Reporting’ – MLA Warns Media

Tejpal Nagar criticised the media portal that reported the matter without seeking his version. He warned against one-sided journalism, calling it an attack on the ethics of credible reporting.

There is a police and judiciary to determine what is true and what is false. The media should not act like the judge and jury. If a journalist cannot even take a version from the accused party, how can the report be called unbiased? This kind of reporting only adds to misinformation and damages reputations unnecessarily.

He also accused the said portal of having a history of biased and agenda-driven coverage, citing past instances where the outlet supported controversial figures without verifying facts.

Police Clarification

Meanwhile, the Central Noida DCP issued a clarification via tweet, confirming that the altercation began due to a vehicle reversing and colliding with another car. This led to a confrontation involving multiple women. Subsequently, a few women allegedly went to the flat of the car owner and physically assaulted a woman, causing injuries to her head.

A formal complaint has been lodged, and legal action is underway.

Note to Media :
The incident underscores the need for balanced and fact-checked journalism. Reporting allegations without hearing both sides can lead to misinformation and irreparable harm to reputations. Journalists must prioritise ethical standards and avoid sensationalism.
