The results of the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) 2023 civil services examination were released on Tuesday, and two Noida residents were ranked in the top 20 throughout all of India.
The 24-year-old Wardah Khan, who wishes to choose foreign services, claimed she took advantage of social media and advice from prior rank holders.
Residents of Sector 93, Akash Verma (29), and Sector 82, Wardah Khan (24), obtained the 18th and 20th ranks, respectively.

When Khan found out she had placed 18th on the UPSC CSE 2023 qualifying list, she was surrounded by family, friends, and members of the media. Khan was beaming with pride and happiness.
Khan, who is from Prayagraj, has been living with her family at the Vivek Vihar colony in Sector 82, Noida, since 2021 in order to get ready for the exams.
“This is a big day for my family and myself because all I wanted to do when I started the preparations was pass the exams. Though this was Khan’s second attempt, she added, “I had never imagined that I would secure a rank in the Top 20, all India.” She claimed that she could not even pass the preliminary exam on her first try in 2022.
“When I failed even the preliminary exam on my first try, I was very disappointed because I had been so confident.” But I used it as a chance to evaluate my shortcomings and shortcomings, and I improved on these for my second try,” the woman stated.
While Khan’s father passed away nine years ago, her mother Afsar Khan is a retired government school teacher located in Prayagraj. She is her parents’ only child.
“I used to study for eight to nine hours a day on average, but I used to prioritize consistency over the amount of time I spent studying. It is imperative that you dedicate two to three hours a day to studying. “There were days when I studied for three hours and days when I studied for more than twelve hours,” stated Khan, who earned a 9.1 CGPA in her tenth grade at Prayagraj’s St Mary’s School and a 95% in her commerce class in her twelfth grade at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Old Cant, Prayagraj.
“I came to Delhi in 2017 to pursue BCom (honours) from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi. Following this, I was working with a corporate company after graduation in 2020. However in 2021, I quit the job and started preparing for civil services, while staying in Noida at my relatives’ home,” said Khan.
She stated, “Even though I got quite lucrative opportunities in the corporate sector, I felt I was unable to make an impact on society,” when asked why she decided to leave a corporate job in favor of a career in the civil services. I can accomplish that and make my country proud by transforming lives through a career in civil services.
Khan described social media as a two-edged sword, but she made use of it to her advantage while getting ready.
“With social media, anything can be found online these days. Excess or lack of anything, in my opinion, is bad. As a result, I took advantage of social media and followed former rank holders who posted videos and advice on the platform. Khan expressed her interest in foreign services and remarked, “I think it really helped me in understanding concepts and preparation strategy.”
Currently undergoing instruction at the National Academy of Defence Financial Management Institute in Leh, Akash Verma claimed that, following his fourth attempt at UPSC, his goal of becoming an Indian administrative officer (IAS) has finally been accomplished.
Verma lives in Sector 93’s Express View Apartments with his mother, a stay-at-home mom, and father, a general manager at Punjab National Bank. His younger brother is employed by an MNC.
“I got accepted to IIT Delhi for a BTech in electrical engineering after completing my education at Rainbow School in Janakpuri, Delhi, in 2012.” I got accepted to the MBA program at IIM Calcutta after graduating in 2016. Verma stated, “I started preparing for the civil services examination after postgraduation in 2018 and gave my first attempt in 2020,” over the phone from Leh.
Verma made it as far as the interview stage on his first try, but he was unsuccessful.
“I passed the test on my second try in 2021 and was chosen for the Indian Defence Estates Service. Since then, in an effort to raise my position, I also took the 2022 CSE while receiving training from the services. But I was unable to pass the preliminary exam. I then made a fourth attempt in 2023, and I’m finally happy with the 20th place now,” Verma stated.
On May 28, 2023, the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2023 was held.
