Gurgaon Metro News: The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has initiated the tender process for a Metro depot near Hero Honda Chowk, marking a key milestone in the city’s new Metro corridor project. Authorities expect the first phase of the corridor, connecting Millennium City Centre to Hero Honda Chowk, to become operational within the next two years. The depot is considered a critical component of the project, and officials said construction activity is expected to gather pace once the tendering process is completed. The first phase aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion along one of Gurugram’s busiest stretches.
Two-Phase Metro Corridor: The 28.5-km Gurugram Metro corridor has been divided into two phases. The first phase will connect Millennium City Centre with Hero Honda Chowk, where work has now entered the tender stage. The second phase will extend the line from Hero Honda Chowk to Cyber City via Basai, completing the planned corridor and strengthening connectivity across the city.
Railway Station To Be Linked: According to reports, as part of the project, GMRL also plans to integrate Gurugram Railway Station with the Metro network, providing commuters with a direct connection between the railway station, commercial districts and major employment hubs. The proposed integration is expected to reduce dependence on multiple modes of transport and improve last-mile connectivity for daily commuters travelling between Old Gurugram and the city’s corporate centres.
Once fully operational, passengers will be able to travel from residential sectors to Cyber City while also accessing the Yellow Line at Millennium City Centre without changing between multiple transport options.
Real Estate Expected To Benefit: The upcoming Metro corridor is also expected to spur demand in Gurugram’s real estate market. Areas such as Sector 37, Sector 10 and surrounding neighbourhoods are already witnessing increased interest as improved connectivity is expected to attract more homebuyers and working professionals. Industry observers believe residential properties located close to future Metro stations could witness stronger rental demand, particularly from corporate employees seeking convenient access to business districts. Infrastructure-led connectivity projects have historically supported long-term capital appreciation, with properties located within one to two kilometres of Metro stations often recording stronger value growth than areas without comparable transit access.
Project To Ease Daily Commute: The new Metro corridor is expected to significantly improve travel between Old Gurugram and the city’s commercial hubs by offering a direct and faster public transport option. According to GMRL Director R Sangva, there are no major hurdles affecting construction up to Hero Honda Chowk, allowing work on the first phase to progress as planned. Besides reducing travel time, the Metro project is expected to ease road congestion, lower vehicular emissions and strengthen Gurugram’s public transport network as the city continues to expand.
