TNPSC Departmental Exams 2023: Registrations open at apply.tnpscexams.in; Check how to apply



The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has started the process of registration for Departmental examinations 2023. Candidates can register on the official website- apply.tnpscexams.in/, for admission into numerous departments.
The registration process started on September 27 and will go on till October 26, 11:59 PM. The exams are scheduled to begin on December 9, 2023, and will be held in multiple shifts such as 9AM to 11AM, 2PM to 5PM or 2:30PM to 4PM.
The TNPSC conducts departmental exams to facilitate the promotion of government employees to higher positions within various Tamil Nadu government departments, including their current one. Those who pass the exam receive promotions to the next level in their respective departments. Certain departments also permit employees deputed to other departments to apply for these exams to be deputed into another department upon clearing the exam.
Registration process
Follow these steps to register for TNPSC Departmental exam 2023:
Step 1: Go to the Commission’s website: www.tnpsc.gov.in./www.tnpscexams.in
Step 2: You must complete a One Time Registration (OTR) and provide your Aadhaar Number details. This is mandatory before applying. Your Aadhaar number should be linked to the One Time Registration.
Step 3: Before you start the One Time Registration, make sure you have scanned your signature and a recent passport-size photograph (taken within the last 3 months) with a blue or white background. Save these as JPG or JPEG images in a folder.
Step 4: The One Time Registration is not the application for the Departmental Tests. It’s just a way to collect information from you and give you a dashboard. To apply for Departmental Tests, click “Apply” for the relevant test on the Commission’s website.
Step 5: Ensure that the information you provide, such as your name, date of birth, address, email ID, and exam center, will be considered final. There won’t be any changes allowed after submission.
Step 6: Upload your photo and signature in the appropriate links. You can use the scanned images from the folder you prepared earlier.
Step 7: The payment must be made online, using methods like net banking, debit card, or credit card. Other payment methods won’t be accepted. The fee details will be automatically calculated based on the number of tests you choose.
Step 8: If your online application is successful, you’ll receive a message on your registered mobile number.
Step 9: Don’t forget to keep a copy of the submitted form for future reference.
Examination pattern

  • Objective Type Tests: These are computer-based tests, and they can be either 100% of the exam or a partial portion (40%, 60%, or 80%). They will continue for 5 days in 9 sessions.
  • Descriptive Type Tests: These are manual written exams, and they can also be either 100% of the exam or a partial portion (20%, 40%, or 60%). They will run for 4 days in 8 sessions.
  • Overall Duration: The Departmental Examinations will span 9 consecutive days, following the schedule in Annexure-IV.
  • Test Format: Some tests allow you to use books during the exam (‘With Books’), while others do not (‘Without Books’). You can find details in the Scheme & Syllabus (Annexure-II).
  • Combination Type Tests: For 37 of the tests that include both objective and descriptive portions, candidates will need to appear on two different days to complete the test
