Myers Went 3 For 4 And TCU Registered 14 Hits In A 9-4 Win Over Kansas State In The Big 12 Tourney

ARLINGTON, Texas: On Thursday in the Big 12 Tournament, the ninth-seeded Horned Frogs defeated No. 6 seed Kansas State 9-4. Sam Myers finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and Kurtis Byrne contributed three of TCU’s 14 hits.

On Friday, TCU (33-20) plays another game in the consolation round. Kansas State (32–24) is no longer in the competition.

After batting first on 12 pitches, Myers scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Maxwell to start the game. In the second, TCU added three more RBI singles, highlighted by a hit by Myers to take a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Horned Frogs forced Kansas State to use their bullpen by loading the bases with no one out. With a shot up the center, Myers took advantage and scored two, giving him a 6-0 lead.

Brody Green’s second RBI single of the game gave TCU a 7-4 lead in the seventh inning, but Kansas State responded with three more runs in the sixth to take the lead. 

Ben Abeldt (3-0) achieved career highs in all three categories with his 85 pitches thrown in five innings and nine strikeouts. For his second save of the year, Louis Rodriguez worked the final 3 2/3 innings without giving up a run.

Kansas State starter Jackson Wentworth (4-5) took the loss after allowing six runs in three innings.
