MG Motor Powers Up India With 500 EV Chargers In 500 Days

In just a few days, the British automotive behemoth MG Motor (Morris Garages) installs 500 chargers around India, marking a significant milestone.
The goal of the MG Charge project is to simplify and expand electric vehicle (EV) charging.

Targeting apartments, condos, and societies, the project was started in 2022 with the goal of installing 1,000 charging points in 1,000 days.

In the press release, MG Motor India’s Chief Growth Officer, Gaurav Gupta, states, “MG aspires to do more than provide cutting-edge electric vehicles.” This historic achievement of setting up 500 chargers in as many days highlights MG Charge’s mission to build a strong EV ecosystem that not only encourages but also accelerates the general adoption of environmentally friendly transportation. Our conviction lies in providing not only chargers but also easily accessible and convenient solutions that will improve the whole ownership experience of electric vehicles for a sustainable and promising future.

Working together with partners such as ElectreeFi, EchargerBays, Exicom Telesystems, Ionage, Statiq, and Highway Delite, MG installed 7.4kW chargers in 50 major cities on average one installation per day. This action highlights MG’s commitment to advancing eco-friendly transportation in India.

MG’s EV Push:

MG Motor India is developing a network in addition to simply putting chargers. With more than 15,000 charging locations around the country, including both public and residential chargers, MG is collaborating to increase the EV infrastructure with partners including Glida, TPCL, BPCL, Jio-bp, Statiq, Zeon, and ChargeZone.

In addition, the company closely collaborates with Lohum and Attero on battery recycling, reuse, and life extension. In an effort to reduce pollution in the future, MG recently partnered with the NITI Aayog-led Shoonya – Zero Pollution Mobility program.

MG employs a holistic strategy, investing in both green manufacturing and skills. They use half of their energy for manufacturing from renewable sources, which cuts their CO2 emissions by 36%. With over 25,000 sold, their EV models, the ZS and Comet, account for a sizable portion of their total sales.
