Disgruntled over repeated problems with the vehicle, the owner brought the scooter to the showroom and set it on fire.
A frustrated electric scooter owner set his vehicle on fire outside the company’s showroom in Ambattur, Chennai on Wednesday, alleging unresolved problems even after repeated complaints.
Parthasarathy, an engineer and collection agent from Thirumullaivoyal, bought the electric scooter three years ago for Rs 1.80 lakh. However, the vehicle started showing consistent issues only after a few months, pushing him to visit the service centre of the company multiple times.
Disgruntled over the lack of response from the company and repeated problems with the vehicle, the owner brought the scooter to the showroom and set it on fire. The locals rushed to douse the blaze before it escalated.

The visuals from the site showed the man raising his concerns over the electric vehicle while some people were trying to pacify him. Parthasarathy was also seen sharing his grievance with police personnel.
The police intervened, but Parthasarathy continued to raise his issues, stating, “Had the showroom taken any decisive step to resolve the issue, I wouldn’t have taken such a drastic step.”
Later, the showroom manager assured him of accountability and said the matter would be addressed without fail. The vehicle was taken for a thorough inspection, especially to check for potential damage to the battery pack that could pose fire or health hazards.
